SMUT was one of the most uplifting experiences I have had, sober, in 2025. It seems like in the year of our whore, 2025, we should be long past commending producers for booking diverse casts, but the line up I witnessed in Naarm (Melbourne) was well considered and curated. We were treated to the delights of all shapes, sizes and body types - and the line up was not all white, bliss!
Not only this but the crowd were super respectful; no one got in my personal space, no one was cooked, I was attending on my own and I didn’t feel out of place, awkward or remiss. This is a rare instance for me, I felt safe and like I could relax. Plus I didn’t find the music prohibitively loud, it was in the goldilocks sweet spot of just right - please, send my thanks to the tech! The audience was treated to a pro champagne show, there were multiple suds shows, a milk pour, during one set there was loaves of bread used as tips - which was a personal favourite, a stroke of genius.
This show really ran the full gamut of what a show can be. We were delighted with beautiful pole and chair work, balloons, nipple tassels and assels. We saw a little bit of everything. Like many ‘strip club’ experience style shows (very in vogue right now), this show provides paper tipping dollars to the audience, unlike other shows of this style ‘tipping is non-negotiable’. Memphis Mae hosted the event I attended but Kitty Obsidian will be hosting the Adelaide Fringe leg of the 2025 tour.
This is not a show to sleep on, get tickets, don’t walk - run! This show is heavily shadowbanned across social media platforms because of its proud stance with the industry. Tell your friends, support your local sex workers. Support independent theatre and self funded work!
SMUT is a truly exquisite experience. I still have ‘pour some sugar on me’ stuck in my head, thanks! I really loved that we got absolutely quintessential strip club nostalgia all the way to neoburlesque weirdness and bared witness to pro’s just doing their usual.
